My music of 1992...

I'm up to 1992 on my 90s countdown series. 92 was 9th/10th grade. As I reflect on the music of my high school years, I realize that a lot of the songs are more nostalgic/sentimental favorites - and some people might think I am completely insane for having them on my countdown... Sometimes the songs themselves aren't the best, but hearing them brings back certain memories. It's interesting how different people connect to different songs in different ways!

Funny side note: My husband is kind enough to peruse my countdowns. And he rates each song with a thumbs up, thumbs down, or side thumb. Thumbs up means he agrees with my a song's place in the countdown. Thumbs down, obviously, means I am insane for including a particular song. Side thumb means that while he may not love the song, he doesn't completely hate it. My 80s countdown got mostly thumbs up, a few side thumbs, and only 2 or 3 thumbs down. My Neil Diamond countdown got 1 thumbs down, the rest thumbs up. I can't wait to see how he feels about my 90s countdowns. Something tells me there will be a lot of thumbs downs! :-)

MY music of 1991...

1991...The last half of 8th grade, first half of 9th grade. A lot of music memories here! I've gotta say, in my first pass, I didn't see that many songs I absolutely loved. I'm definitely way less enthusiastic about this countdown - but there are some good songs here - and they definitely bring back memories...

Not a great live performance, in my opinion...But the song itself was one of my favorites in 91. My best friend and I listened to the EMF tape constantly. And this song often turned up in "mixes" we would make dedicated to our crushes...Yes, we did that. I don't consider it lame, I consider it creative...

I saw Point Break three times in the theater and then went out and rented EVERY Keanu film I could find. And then this video came out. I must've watched it 100 times a day. It was the best, to me, back then!

MY music of 1990...

Doing a list of favorite 80s songs was easy. The 90s is much harder. Music was so much more diverse then - it was all over the place. So, I've decided to break it down by year. This will be fun!



In 1990 I was 12-going-on-13. In some ways (ie friends) it was a great year. In other ways (ie BAD hair, braces, poor fashion choices, inability to use makeup properly, unfortunate food/body image issues resulting in lunches of Evian water and Slim Fast) it was...awkward. But there was a soundtrack to it all, because the music...the music was major. At that age, music was pretty much my hobby. Not that I was a musician or anything. I just listened to a lot - A LOT - of it. I had a notebook where I would write down lyrics to songs I loved...My 2 best friends and I would sing karaoke style into a tape recorder...I spent my allowance on a new cassette tape EVERY weekend. I was ALL about music. It was hard to narrow down a list of favorites from 1990 - there are lots of great ones that almost made the list, but in this moment, these are my top 15 - in countDOWN form. The following clue will lead you to the location of the first pit stop (aka round 1). There you will find a note from Gnomad the gnome. The note will give you an extra clue to the final destination (aka round 3). Remember, you don't have to share the clue with anyone. Keep it to yourself to better your chances of finding Gnomad in round 3!

GNOME HUNT IMPORTANT INFORMATION

RULES AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION...

1) The dates and times for the clue postings will be announced ahead of time. CLUE #1 WILL BE POSTED ON SATURDAY, APRIL 26 AT 8am.

2) There will be two "password rounds" before the "final destination round".
*"Password rounds" consist of a clue leading to a note from the gnome.
*"Final destination round" leads to the gnome.

3) Each round will have TWO winners. A virtual winner and a physical winner.
*The virtual winner will be the first OUT OF TOWN PARTICIPANT to email eghopper@yahoo.com the correct, exact location given in the clue.
*The physical winner will be the person who physically retrieves the "password" from the location and phones it in.

4) Instead of points, the virtual and physical winners for the "password rounds" will receive an extra clue to the FINAL destination of the gnome. Share these extra clues w/other players at your own risk, as it could cost you the game.
