6 Unspectacular Quirks Redux
I decided my quirks weren't quirky enough. So here's a second shot. The blog entry that officially seals my fate as a crazy person.
1) I have a strangely awesome memory. While it can be a great asset (I barely studied in school and made great grades), it can also be a pit of uselessness. However, I have entertained many friends with my account of events that they can't seem to recall, yet I know every detail of...I have kicked butt on many trivia games (well, tv/music trivia) because I knew the actor who played Skippy on Family Ties or the French restaurant Tony and Angela went to on an episode of Who's The Boss...etc, etc, etc.
2) I'm a stickler for planning/routine. You've heard the saying "a place for everything and everything in its place", well my motto would be "a time for everything and everything in its time". Example: lunch must be between 11 and 1. I don't know what would happen if lunch was eaten at 10:45 or 1:30. The earth would probably implode from the ensuing chaos. Another example: If my husband and I make plans with friends to go out to dinner, a specific time had better be mentioned...or I might self-destruct. How can I plan my day with dinner in limbo floating around out there? I CAN'T! Anal, huh?
3) I will not watch a movie or show about animals. Not even a cartoon. (Scooby Doo is okay, The Fox and the Hound is NOT...Dog Whisperer is okay, Canine 911 is NOT...) Animals in peril, in reality, fiction, or cartoon is off-limits for me. And that ASPCA commercial will ruin my entire day. I even cried at the beginning of Ace Ventura...I'd rather eat glass than watch Bambi. If the TV guide synopsis of a show says "Rudy and Vanessa bring home a stray dog..." I'm NOT watching. Don't even TALK to me about it - or talk about it with me around. Got it?
4) I make up names for people. This started, I guess, in middle school when my friends and I would make up code names for the guys we liked. There would be kind of a stream of consciousness thing to it, actually. It was a way to talk about someone without using their actual name. And somehow this stuck and I still do it. People in my neighborhood have alternate names...There's no point to it. It's just something I do. "Big Hair almost hit the Vandersnoot's dog when it was going over to the Smokerson's yard..." This is NOT normal...but it IS fun.
5) I have weird germ phobias. I will not flush a public toilet with my hand (I use my foot) - and, actually, it's VERY rare that I even use a public toilet - I try very hard to avoid them. I hold my breath when I go by a garbage can. I am very careful about where I set my food/drink down - because germs can and will crawl right up onto them - that means no food/drink in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink or anywhere close to a garbage can. I must get a new toothbrush once a month. Every house cleaning session ends with me pouring straight bleach on my toilet brush. Oh, I could go on and on with this one...
6) If you and I are walking down the street and pass a street sign, for example, we MUST go around it on the SAME side. Why? I don't know. My grandmother started this. And my mom is a stickler for it, too. There is no reason for it, but I must abide. If you go on the other side of the sign/light post/fire hydrant, I will go back and reroute. If that's not quirky, I don't know what is...

6 Unspectacular Quirks
Charnita has tagged me to blog my 6 "unspectacular" quirks. As soon as I saw her blog on this, I knew I'd be next...
1) I am - as my blog title suggests - a big obsessive/compulsive. I must put things in order, which is not only quite evident by my many many countdowns in my blog, but also in my everyday life. Food must be organized very specifically in my cabinets, clothes in the closet are organized by color, etc. And as for being compulsive...well, I currently own 21 different tv shows on dvd - many entire series sets or multiple seasons AND I compulsively update amazon wishlists of more that I must have. That's just one example...
2) I am a crazy animal lady. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs (so far) and have re-homed many homeless pets over the years. I click on http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/ everyday to donate to needy animals (it's free!) and I support the ASPCA (http://www.aspca.org/). I'm not THAT crazy - I don't dress my pets up or treat them like people, but I do love animals and rally for them any way I can.
3) I ADORE television. Always have. Sitcoms, reality tv, soap operas. When I was little, my parents put a limit on the amount of tv I could watch each day. That's how bad my tv addiction was. Now that I'm older, I don't have quite so much time to watch tv, but I still have certain shows that I really get into and CANNOT miss. And, to take this quirk one step further, I have an oddly great memory about strange, obscure details of shows. In fact, I have a REALLY great board game about sitcoms of the 70s, 80s, and 90s - called Flashback - and I have NEVER been defeated. And that brings me to my next quirk...
4) I am very competitive. Whatever game I play, I want to win. Whether it's a scavenger hunt (gnome hunt!), board game, card game, whatever - I WANT TO WIN. Sure, it's fun to play, but it's a little pointless if I don't win :-) A couple examples of my competitive outlets:
- Hopper Series of Poker - a poker tournament consisting of me, my husband, his 2 brothers, and their wives. I won the first 20 game series and am leading in the second 20 game series...which is on hiatus - we play so sporadically. - Fantasy TV - It's on summer hiatus right now, but all year, I play this and it's SO much fun! You draft characters from various shows and make a line-up to beat your opponent. There's a lot of strategy involved, which is fun. http://www.fantasyteevee.com/home.php
5) I'm into offbeat new agey things like feng shui, chakras, juicing, meditation, yoga. I have tons of books on these subjects and consult them when needed. Keeps the good, positive energy flowing. I won't go into it all too much - or maybe I'll blog about it another time - but, yes, this is another quirk of mine.
6) I am VERY creative. Non-stop creative. STRANGELY creative. A few examples: I write parodies of family get-togethers ( http://eghopper.blogspot.com/2008/05/gnome-nightmare.html) and Hopper Series of Poker games (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/hopperseriesofpoker/files/)...make movies using The Sims to either make fun of or entertain friends/family...make up crazy games (like Fear Factor) for my daycare kids...and I even started my own soap opera (again using The Sims) --- http://www.youtube.com/user/emmaleehopper

I LOVE The Mole...
Whew. The elimination of Alex has me quite relieved. I didn't see any Mole behavior in his gameplay, but the "alleged clues" pointed to him as a strong suspect. Guess all of those clues were just a coincidence this time! The exact type of clues that were given in the previous four seasons are bogus this year? Very Mole-y, producers, very Mole-y indeed.
I still have a feeling my original pick - Mark - could very well be The Mole. I have to stick with my gut pick until he is eliminated... BUT after watching last night's review of the season so far, which featured some unseen footage, Mark is looking cleverly Mole-y.
Neck and neck with Mark on my imaginary scale of suspicion is Paul. There are so many reasons to suspect Paul, who was my husband's original pick. My favorite "hmmm...." moment last night was when everyone was going through and saying "I am not the Mole." Paul said, "If you haven't been paying attention, I am not the Mole." So...does that mean if I HAVE been paying attention, he IS the Mole? Besides that, the Mole journal on abc.com, which could be completely bogus, points right to him...Of course, the Mole does lie, so anything is possible.
My third suspect would be Craig. I don't see as much to support Craig as Mole, but it's definitely a possibility.
Then Clay. Smart and low-key. I can't say he's NOT the Mole, but I don't feel super-strongly about it.
Then Nicole. I still say the Mole won't be a woman this time. And also, I feel like she's given some expressions/reactions that indicate she's not the Mole.
